BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Shawnee State true freshman Robert Gibson, who swept the 200 and 400 freestyle events to help Shawnee State win a home meet against Midway (Ky.), Pikeville (Ky.) and West Virginia Tech, has been named as the Mid-South Conference's Male Swimmer of the Week, as announced by conference officials Monday afternoon.

Gibson, who swam a 1:49.37 converted time in the 200 free, edged Midway's Caique Maia for victory in the event, then took a commanding win in the 400 free as Gibson won that event by more than 11 seconds.

In relay events, Gibson helped the Shawnee State 'B' squad finish second and third in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay events, respectively. Gibson helped the SSU 'B' group better Midway's, West Virginia Tech's and Pikeville's 'A' units in the 200 medley relay and swam the fastest official split of the 'B' group in the 200 freestyle relay.

The weekly honor is the first of Gibson's career.
