MARION, Ind. -- The men's swimming program at Shawnee State acquitted itself well in a dual meet against Indiana Wesleyan, scoring four event victories as Robert Gibson swept the long distance freestyle races while
Tony Goodwin's performance in the 100 yard fly and Shawnee State's meet-winning performance in the 200 yard freestyle relay and Shawnee State's 200 yard freestyle relay 'A' group's time were also winners Saturday in a meet that was held at Indiana Wesleyan University's De Voe Natatorium in Marion, Ind.
Gibson, who swam times of 5:02.56 and 10:34.24 in the 500 and 1,000 yard freestyles, won two events for the second consecutive weekend to lead the Bears' output. Gibson won the 500 yard freestyle by nearly 13 full seconds and took home the 1,000 yard freestyle by nearly 21-and-a-half seconds in two dominating performance where the true freshman covered the field with relative ease.
Goodwin, a true sophomore, continued building on a bright spot to his career, swimming a 54.60 to win the 100 yard freestyle by nearly 1.4 seconds. The Shawnee State 'A' group of Gibson, Goodwin,
Kutay Ababay and
Josiah Changar added in Shawnee State's final victory of the day with a strong performance in the 200 yard freestyle relay, as the quartet collectively swam a 1:27.84 -- bettering Indiana Wesleyan's 'A' group by over two full seconds while coming within two full seconds of the NAIA provisional cut time in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

- 50 yard freestyle -- Tony Goodwin (22.92), second
- 100 yard freestyle -- Kutay Ababay (48.06), second, just a tenth and six one-hundreths off of NAIA provisional cut
- 200 yard freestyle relay -- Shawnee State 'A' (Ababay, Changar, Gibson, Goodwin), 1:41.30, second; Shawnee State 'B' (Luke Lunsford, Aidan Montgomery, Josiah Ramdeen, Alex Ray), 1:43.53, third
- 200 yard freestyle -- Luke Lunsford, second (1:54.58); Alex Ray, third (1:55.86), Thomas Kessler, fourth (1:58.71)
- 100 yard breaststroke -- Josiah Ramdeen, third (1:05.39)
The men's swimming program at Shawnee State will be back in action alongside the women's swimming program when the Bears take on Indiana Wesleyan again in three weeks' time Saturday, Nov. 22, when the Wildcats make the return trip to Shawnee State and the Warsaw Aquatic Center.
