In women's and men's tennis action that was held at the beginning of the week, the Shawnee State women's tennis program fell to Pikeville, 6-1 while the men fell by a 5-2 tally Sunday at Daehler Tennis Courts.
At No. 1 singles, Shawnee State's Vanessa Akuaka put up a tremendous fight, ultimately falling to Pikeville's Lilia Jerry, 5-7, 6-3, 5-10 to highlight the results.
Brooklyn Foose also posted a strong showing at No. 5 singles, battling Sara Contreras to a 6-4 margin in the first set before ultimately falling in the second set, 6-1.
In men's competition, Ishmael Dowuona put together a fantastic effort at No. 2 singles, winning that match 6-3, 6-4 over Pikeville's Anton Hofman. Ivan Wularu put together a competitive match, falling 6-3, 7-6 to Pikeville's Paulo Castillo.
The women's tennis program at Shawnee State is currently competing against West Virginia State and will play at Capital at 6 p.m. Saturday evening, while the men's tennis program will play Prairie State College in an exhibition match at 10 a.m. and Capital in an official match at 3 p.m.
