SSU Rocket League closes out perfect regular season in NACE, Super Smash Bros. makes NACE LCQ Round of 8

The Esports efforts at Shawnee State University over the past 10 days were again led by the Shawnee State Rocket League and Shawnee State Super Smash Bros units, as the SSU Rocket League completed an undefeated regular season with victories over Siena Heights (Mich.) and Spring Arbor (Mich.) while the SSU Smash Bros. unit defeated in-state foe Heidelberg in Great Lakes Esports Conference (GLEC) play and advanced to the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) Round of 8 Last Chance Qualifier within the past 10 days of action.

A full rundown is below:

NACE Rocket League -- Shawnee State 3, Spring Arbor (Mich.) 2; Shawnee State 3, Siena Heights (Mich.) 0

In a thrilling, come-from-behind victory, the Shawnee State NACE Rocket League squad was able to defeat Spring Arbor (Mich.) in a thrilling, come-from-behind victory (1-2, 6-1, 1-2, 3-0, 2-0) back on Oct. 23.

Shawnee State was able to get a huge effort from Dyllan DeBryune (Gamertag: Duckworth) in the five-set match, as DeBryune posted the highest score in four out of the five matches for Shawnee State. DeBryune ultimately tallied 2,294 points between the five matches, posting four goals, five assists and 11 saves to provide the veteran leadership that the multi-year Esports talent has become known for.

Sean Downard (Gamertag: Tacostash84) added in 2,257 points after a terrific statline himself, notching six goals, four assists and eight saves, while Blade Taylor (Gamertag: SlaYer) nabbed three goals, four assists and six saves en route to completing another fantastic performance from the trio.

Continuing its strong output, the Shawnee State Rocket League finished off its sweep of the regular season with a convincing straight-set triumph over Siena Heights, 3-0.

GLEC League of Legends -- Shawnee State 2, Mount Union 0

In League of Legends competition, the Shawnee State League of Legends program scored an impressive triumph with a 2-0 sweep of in-state foe Mount Union on Oct. 26.

Owen New (Gamertag: JablOwen) led the way as his 10 kills and 14,277 points were tops in the convincing win. Nicholas Byers (Gamertag: Menace) also played in strong fashion, nabbing eight kills and dying just once while posting 13,845 points. Dustin Simpkins (Gamertag: breadlofe) and Ian Hillman (Gamertag: brbNeedChimes) were among those who also contributed to the victory.

GLEC Super Smash Bros. -- Shawnee State 2, Heidelberg 0

Quick work was made by the Super Smash Bros. unit in its Great Lakes Esports Conference match against Heidelberg, as the Bears defeated the in-state foe by massive counts of 9-0, 10-0 back on Oct. 26.

Joshua Addy-Frazier (Gamertag: bbq sause) and Simon Rhodes (Gamertag: BIRD_) did the majority of the damage, as Addy-Frazier won seven of Shawnee State's nine stocks in Game 1 while Rhodes won all nine of Shawnee State's stocks in Game 2, with Heidelberg forfeiting a stock to set the final margin.

NACE Super Smash Bros. Last Chance Round of 12 Qualifier -- Shawnee State 2, Minnesota State-Mankato 0

In the NACE Super Smash Bros. Last Chance Round of 12 Qualifier, the Super Smash Bros. unit won an LCQ match as the Bears collected a 2-0 victory over Minnesota State-Mankato Tuesday evening. SSU won by 4-0 and 9-0 margins, sweeping MSU-Mankato at every turn behind the quartet of Dustin Simpkins (Gamertag: breadlofe), Sam Patterson (Gamertag: Samarex), Michael Clark (Gamertag: Smooglegad) and Christopher Mowery (Gamertag: SpaceMiner321).

The Bears' run ended in the Last Chance Qualifier Round of 8 as Shawnee State lost to George Mason, 2-0.
