SSU Men's Soccer Team picks up First win of the season.

This past Friday afternoon, The Bears would get their first win of the season when they traveled to Indiana to play against the Red Hawks of Indiana Northwest University.

Looking for their first win of the season, the Bears would start off the first half with a shot from Ephraim Mutombo, saved by the Red Hawks keeper Jared Hecimovich. After three more shots on goal, the Red Hawks would score an own goal in the 16th minute and that would benefit the Bears. After 23 minutes Matheus Camargo would take a shot that would end in the back of the net and put the Bears ahead 2-0 in the game. The first half would end with 11 shots, 1 save, and 7 corner kicks for the Bears; while the Red Hawks had 2 shots, 9 saves, and no corners.

The second half would start and a shot from Thivassen Naiker came after three minutes, but this would hit the crossbar and deny the third goal for Shawnee State. In the second half, the Bears would receive eight fouls, five of which were provoked in just five minutes. The third goal for the Bears would come in minute 76 when Elvis Ezendu assisted Matt Stam. The Red Hawks would look to shorten the goal difference in minute 83 when Francisco Torres scored for Indiana Northwest. The game would end 3-1 and the Bears would return home with their first win of the season.

The Bears will return home and play Mount Vernon Nazare on September 6th at 7:00 P.M.
