Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Shawnee Sweeps Conference Weekend

The Bears Volleyball team was on the road for the first weekend of action in the River States Conference, as they traveled to Point Park University Friday evening and the University of Rio Grande Saturday afternoon. SSU did not drop a set between the two games winning 3-0 on Friday and 3-0 on Saturday.

SSU vs PPU

Shawnee State opened up the weekend with the day-long trip up to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, taking on the Pioneers. SSU started hot as they scored the first seven points of the game from a Kylee Barney and Gretchen Chaney kill, and a service ace from Regan Lewis. Shawnee went on to dominate the remainder of the set, claiming the 1-0 set lead. The second and third sets were battles till the very end. The deciding factor was the dominant front line of Haydin Wamsely, Bethany Colling, and Barney who combined for 15 blocks and 27 kills.

SSU vs URG

After Friday's game, the Bears traveled to the University of Rio Grande to continue the rivalry, but this time it was as conference foes and meant a lot more than normal. The two teams battled early on but Shawnee scored six straight points, kills from Faith Khun, Chaney, and Wamsely, along with a service ace from Wamsley. The Bears then went on to score the last nine of ten points of set one, claiming the first frame. The second and third sets were close once again, the Bears claimed both sets by kills. The second was sealed by Barney and the third was claimed after back-to-back kills from Olivia Fliehman and Wamsely.

The Bears will be back in action Tuesday evening as they return home to face the Golden Bears of West Virginia Tech. The RSC matchup will start at 7 p.m.
