Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

SSU Splits This Weeks RSC Action

Tuesday evening, the Bears had a Bear battle as they welcomed in the Golden Bears of WVU Tech. SSU fell three sets to one. Saturday afternoon, the Shawnee State Volleyball team welcomed in conference foe Indiana University Southeast. The teams split the first four sets evenly, meaning the Bears were going to have their first five-set match of the season. SSU used their final run of the game to claim the fifth set and the match over IUSE Grenadiers.

SSU vs. WVU Tech

The Golden Bears jumped out and took an early lead in the first set. The Bears threw everything possible at the Golden Bears but it was not enough as Tech grabbed the first set. After flipping the sides of the floors, SSU found something on that side of the floor as they claimed an early lead. The battle was evident in this set as the two teams traded blows back and forth neither team grabbing more than a one-point lead. Shawnee claimed the second set as Kylee Barney jumped up and bashed the ball into the ground for the kill, tying the game at one all. The third and fourth sets of the evening were close, although both sets could have gone either way but it fell into the direction of te Golden Bears.

SSU vs. IUSE

SSU started with the service against the Grenadiers, and they did not look back 16-9 lead with seemingly everything going the Bear's way. Shawnee claimed set one with back-to-back kills from freshman Gretchen Chaney. After the side swap, the two teams began their battle to 25 and it was nothing shy of a battle. Shawnee fell behind 9-8 and out of a Shawnee State timeout by Coach Sprigss the Bears went on a run of their own, not losing the lead for the remaining part of set two. The third and fourth sets saw the Grenadiers get on the board and tie the game up at two sets a piece. The two teams were set for a fifth set finally. With kills from Haidyn Wamsley, Wilye Shipley, Regan Lewis, Barney, Chaney, and more, the Bears used IUSE errors to claim the fifth set and the game.

The Bears will be back in action next Friday and Saturday as they welcome in IU Kokomo and Oakland City. The game on Friday starts at 7 p.m. and the game on Saturday starts at 2 p.m.
