Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bears Fall on Sunday Afternoon

For their fifth game of the season, the Women's Soccer Team traveled to Lebanon, Tennessee, to face the University of Cumberland on Sunday, September 10th. The Bears would fall to the Phoenix 8-0.

Starting the first half, like they characteristically do, the Phoenix would send as many players forward as possible, and their tactic seemed to work since they were able to score in the first minute of the game. The first goal would come from a cross by Miku Kayama and finished by Brenna Swiger. The Bears would struggle to find their footing, making many substitutions, but the game would still be controlled by the University of Cumberland. The Phoenix would score two more goals in the first half, by Brenna Swiger and Ella Tuplin. The first half would end 4-0 to the Phoenix.

The SSU Bears seemed to have a tough time at the beginning of the second half when the Phoenix found their sixth goal of the game just two minutes into the second period. The Bears would get the only two yellow cards of the game during the second half, one for Frederika Ntumba and one for the keeper Emma Swain. The foul caused by Emma Swain would be just outside the box and Yuna Hazekawa would take the free kick that ended in the back of the net. In minute 61, Julie Derenemesnil came in as a keeper for the Bears and handled the rest of the game without conceding any goals. The game would end 8-0 for the University of Cumberland.

The Shawnee State Women's Soccer team will host Cumberland KY this next Saturday, September 16th for the homecoming game, at the Shawnee State turf. Kick-off at 2:00 P.M.
