Bears Battle Bobcats to the End

Shawnee State traveled to Athen, Ohio, to take on the Bobcats of Ohio University earlier this week. The Bears showed a tough fight but fell to the Divison One opponent 7-2.

SSU sent Freshman Ethan Ison to the mound to start against the Bobcats and after a rocky first inning where Ison allowed two runs, he settled in and would throw two scoreless innings. The Bears tied the game in the next inning as Brock Kitchen singled bringing up Noah Rezner who blasted a ball over the right-field fence. Offensively, Shawnee struggled sending no more than five batters to the plate per inning for the remainder of the game. The pitching staff did their best to keep the Bears in the game but the Bobcat offense made it tough on SSU, as they score five unanswered runs in the last seven innings of the game. Shawnee State would fall 7-2 in their final midweek of the season.

  • Rezner's home run to tie the game in the top of the second
  • 2 hit game for Kitchen

The Bears will be back in action this weekend as they open the Mid-South Conference tournament as SSU will travel to face the number two-seeded Phoenix of Cumberland University. With expected weather in the forecast for the weekend, the two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 11 AM central time. They will play a third "If Necessary" game Saturday afternoon.
