Game Recap: Softball |

Bears Fall in Tough Fought Match-up Against Tigers

The Shawnee State Softball team took on Georgetown in a three-game series at Doc Singleton Park for their final home Mid-South Conference matchup.

The first game of the series saw the Bears fall behind 7-0 in the top of the first inning. Brittani Wolfenbarker stepped to the plate in the bottom of the first and drove the ball over the fence, showing that SSU still had some life. Shawnee State would attempt their comeback in the bottom of the fifth when Wolfenbarker hit into a fielder's choice scoring Tori Badgett followed by Andrea Little tripled scoring Kylie Ray and Wolfenbarker. Then, Emily Allphin scored Andrea Little on a sacrifice fly making the game 7-6 in the fifth inning. The Bears would run out of innings on the comeback and fall to the Tigers 8-6.

After honoring the three seniors in between games, Cassie Schaefer had the ball for the Bears and threw a gem of a game going seven innings and allowing just three earned runs while striking out five. The Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 after a double from Mackenzie Hale would score Wolfenbarker. The only blemish on Schaefers outing would come in the sixth inning after a double down the left field line scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Bears would attempt some magic scoring one from Morgan Grambell who hit a sac fly to score Tori Badgett to cut the lead to 3-2, but the Tigers silenced the Bears once again falling just short.

Friday afternoon the two teams laced their cleats up and play in game three. Emma Wargel, Cameryn Davidson, and Cassie Schaefer all made an appearance in the third game but the Tigers were just too hot for the Bears to cool them off. Offensively for the Bears, Mackenzie Hale scored Lauren Spears followed by Lexie Lockwood grounded out scoring Hale to take a 3-0 lead. Georgetown would score nine unanswered runs to finish the game. The Bears fell in game three 9-3.

The Bears will be back on the field this coming weekend as they will travel to Pulaski, Tennessee to compete in their final MSC conference regular season game. The first pitch of the series is slated for 3 PM Friday afternoon.
