Game Recap: Softball |

Bears Lose Two Heartbreakers

The Shawnee State Softball team put up a fight against the Tigers of Campbellsville University but would run out of innings and late-inning heroics for CU dwindled the Bear's chances as they fell in all three games.

In the first game of the series, the Bear's lone run came in the fifth inning from a Brittani Wolfenbarker single to score Kylie Ray. The Bears would throw three different pitchers, none necessarily having the answer for the Campbellsville offense. The Bears would fall 9-1 in six innings.

Game two of the series would show a pitching duel. Freshman Carly King was sent out into the circle for the middle game and she took the bull by the horns. King threw six innings of six-hit softball only giving up two runs while striking out seven. Offensively for the Bears, the Tigers pitcher dominated the Bears for most of the game. That was until Brittani Wolfenbarker came to the plate in the sixth inning and blast a ball to center field, tying the game at one run. Heartbreak ensued though as the Tiger's offense struck again in the bottom of the seventh, claiming the victory for Campbellsville.

  • Wolfenbarker home run in the sixth inning
  • King's dominant pitching performance

The Bears would look to grab at least one game from the 24th-ranked Tigers in the third game of the series. The Bears would jump out to an early 1-0 lead off an Andrea Little single, scoring Brittani Wolfenbarker. Campbellsville would answer in the second putting up four runs in the inning. Haley Hawes stepped to the plate in the fourth and scored two on a single down the right field line, Lexie Lockwood and Hawes scored later in the inning to tie the game at four. In the fifth, the Bears would take the lead off an Emma Wargel double-scoring Little. Campbellsville would answer, going out 7-5 over the next two innings. The sixth inning saw the Bears score two runs off two hits from Ashley Fite and Lauren Spears. Aftering tying the game and sending it into extra innings, Campbellsville would score one in the eight eventually being the winning run. The Bears would fall 8-7.

  • Little and Lockwood each had 3 hits
  • Five other Bears with at least one hit
