Bears Fall in Tough Games Against UPike

The Shawnee State Bears traveled to Pikeville, Kentucky to take on the University of Pikeville playing two games on Saturday. The Bears would match Pikeville's 21 hits on the day but fell in both games losing game one 4-3 and game two 9-4.

In game one, the Bears would outhit Pikeville 10-5. Jacob Gleason would continue his solid season going five strong allowing five hits while striking out five and allowing three runs keeping SSU well within striking distance. Ricky Deeble would throw the final inning not allowing a base runner and giving the Bears' offense one last chance to get a run or more across to prolong the game. Shawnee State would not score until the sixth inning when Noah Sniadach came to the plate and would single to right scoring Charles Douglas. Brock Kitchen would follow up Sniadach with a single of his own scoring Eric Oakes making it a 4-2 game. In the seventh, Sniadach would single which scored Tanner Lund to make it a 4-3 game. The Bears would fail to prevail in the late rally.

In game two, the Pikeville offense would get Jakobe Reese's number early getting him 10 hits. James Bodrock came into the game and would pitch for the final five innings only allowing one earned run to continue his fine junior season. Noah Sniadach would continue his hot day by doubling in the first scoring Charles Douglas, Diego Mendoza would score Eric Oakes on a fielder's choice, and Noah Rezner would single-scoring Sniadach. The Bears would be up 3-0 heading to the bottom of the first. Pikeville would hold the Bears scoreless while scoring nine unanswered runs over the next seven innings. The Bears would scratch across one run in the top of the ninth, but it was not enough losing 9-4.

The Bears will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday in game three against Pikeville looking to get on the winning side of things and continue to take steps in the right direction.
