Tennis Takes on Campbellsville at 3:00 Today

The Shawnee State Women's and Men's Tennis teams begin their spring home schedule today at 3:00 taking on MSC foe Campbellsville. The match, originally scheduled for Friday has been moved to avoid the rain forecasted for Friday.

This will be the Bears second match of the spring as they took on IU East, at the Schroeder Tennis Center during spring break, both teams dropping excited matches with identical 3-4 scores.

For the Ladies, IU East was able to secure the doubles point winning 2 of the 3 doubles matches. Both teams played very competitive single matches that were split, with SSU winning 3 and IU East picking up 3 wins for the final team score of 4-3.

All the SSU ladies played well throughout the day, highlighted by Lexy Urban picking up a win with Antonia Ilea at #3 doubles (6-1), followed by a thrilling win in singles, eventually taking the tie breaker 12-10.

The men played some great tennis, but were unable to secure the victory dropping the match 3-4 as well.

  • Doubles team, Duarte Melo and Zayden Rhinehart, picked up a crucial win at #1 doubles 6-4.
  • Matt Stam picked up a nice win in his first SSU action at singles winning 6-0, 6-1.

As the MSC stretch of our season begins, the Bears are scheduled to play their first 3 matches at home, taking on Campbellsville this afternoon at 3:00 at the Daehler Tennis Center. The Bears are scheduled to take on Cumberland University and UT Southern next weekend (3/17 & 3/18).
