Game Recap: Baseball |

Bears Drop Game One

The Shawnee State Baseball team traveled to Tennessee to take on Cumberland University in a three-game series. With Cumberlands bats scorching hot this season, the Bears dropped game one, 14-4.

The Bears would send Jacob Gleason to the mound, he would battle for three and two-thirds innings facing this hard-hitting Cumberland team. Austin Crawford would follow him for the final innings. The Bears only managed four hits in game one of the series, still trying to find consistency at the plate.

Two of the four hits being for extra bases though, Noah Rezner started the scoring for Shawnee when he hit a solo shot to right field in the fifth inning. Noah Sniadach doubled in the sixth inning, scoring Tanner Lund and advancing Eric Oakes to third. Diego Mendoza then followed with a single, scoring Oakes, and advancing Sniadach to third. Lastly, Brock Kitchen scored Sniadach on a fielder's choice. The Bears will look to try to take what they did in the sixth into tomorrow to try to take two and win the series.

  • Noah Rezner hit his first home run of the season
  • While pulling double duty as a pitcher and infield player, Eric Oakes is leading the Bears in batting average at .302
  • Jacob Gleason continues to be a workhorse, leading Shawnee in innings pitched so far

The Bears will be back in action tomorrow Saturday, March 11th finishing the three-game series with Cumberland University in Lebanon Tennessee.
