Game Recap: Baseball |

Bears Fall in First Action of the Season

The Shawnee State Baseball team traveled to Cochran, Georgia, to take on the Knights of Middle Georgia State College. In doubleheader action this afternoon, the Bears would fall in both by scores of 11-0 and 5-1.

Game 1

The Bears would send Jacob Gleason to the mound for the first game of the year, in hope of getting the dominant figure that he had shown he was last season. Gleason showing glimpses of ace-like material, but would have to knock off the offseason cobwebs by going 4.1 innings allowing two hits and three runs. Charles Douglas got a base knock in the top of the third to give the Bears their first hit of the season, but nothing would come from it as Knights pitching was dominant in game one.

  • Gleason, who hit for himself, joined Tyler Lund and Douglas on the board with each getting a hit
  • Tyler Lund would Triple to center in the sixth inning

Game 2

The memory bank had to get refreshed quickly as the two teams play a good old fashion double header 30 minutes after the completion of the first game. SSU started the second game with two hits from Ryan Scott and Eric Oaks and MGSC starter limited the Bears to just that getting out of the inning with no damage. Shawnee would send left-handed pitcher Jakobe Reese to the bump and he would have a solid performance going four innings and giving up five hits along with two strikeouts. In the fifth inning, Shawnee would score their first run of the season and Tyler Lund would cross the plate on an Oaks single. That would be all the runs for the Bears as they would fall in game two 5-1.

  • Shawnee would combine for eight walks in game 2
  • Scott and Oaks each had two hits

The Bears will be back on the field tomorrow as they will go up against the Knights with noon being the time scheduled for the first pitch.
