Spoils Shared as Bears and Cavaliers Split

The Shawnee State Bears softball team played a double header against Montreat College in Montreat, North Carolina. The Bears took game one on the day 6-3 and lost game two 7-6.

In game one, the top of the lineup did damage providing 5 of the 8 hits in the game. Lexie Lockwood and Kylie Ray did their job. Emily Allphin had one hit and one RBI in the contest. Morgan Gambrell stood out going two for three having three RBI and drawing two walks as well. Cameryn Davidson battled for 4.2 innings only allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 3. Emma Wargel came in to get the save only allowing a single hit in her 2.1 innings of work. The Bears won this game 6-3.

  • Kylie Ray had a perfect game, going 3-3 at the play with a walk, and grabbing an RBI with a solo home run
  • Four different Bears recorded an RBI or run
  • Davidson and Wargel combined to allow only three batters to record a hit

In game two, Cassie Schaefer took the ball and went 4 innings allowing 6 hits and 5 earned runs while striking out 6. Emma Wargel took over for the following two innings giving up one earned run on 3 hits while striking out three. The Bears bats were hot collecting 11 hits over the 7 innings. Kylie Ray and Andrea Little each collected a hit and an RBI. Lexie Lockwood collected one hit and two RBI. Emily Allphin had 3 hits and an RBI, Ashley Fite 2 hits and an RBI as well. However, losing a close one 7-6.

  • Cassie Schaefer and Emma Wargel both were unlucky to have 7 combined runs put up on them, totaling 9 strikeouts as a staff in just 7 innings
  • Allphin added to her performance in the opening game of the double header, hitting a solo home run in the top of the 5th of game two

The Bears will take on Montreat again tomorrow at noon in a single game, looking to take the series before heading back to Southern Ohio.
