The women's basketball program at Shawnee State University had 10 different players reach the scoring column, but failed to claim victory in a neutral-site, nonconference affair against the Southeastern (Fla.) Fire women's basketball program Friday afternoon in Babson Park, Fla.
Shawnee State (8-4) was held to a 13-for-45 shooting mark from the field in the contest in the setback while Southeastern (9-4) shot 23-for-50 from the field.
Cianna Gloster keeps grinding away
Despite dealing with foul trouble, Shawnee State senior forward Cianna Gloster continued to deliver high-energy play and production.
The senior forward from Flint, Mich. ultimately dropped in six out of her eight points in the second half of competition on committed drives, finishes and putbacks. Gloster also finished with a game-high nine rebounds -- including five in the second half alone -- and matched a team-high with three steals.
Gregory showcases attacking style in transition
After trailing by a 35-17 count at the halftime break, Shawnee State senior guard Sanaya Gregory took charge in an effort to lead Shawnee State back into the fight.
In what was the Bears' best stretch of basketball throughout the contest, Shawnee State started the second half of competition on a 6-0 run with Gregory using her speed and court savvy to create scoring opportunities for herself. Gregory ultimately tallied four points and an assist over the first 4:18 of the third quarter of action to help the Bears pull as close as 40-29 with 5:42 to play in the third frame. Gregory ultimately matched Cianna Gloster with a team-high eight points to go along with two steals.
