In an exhibition contest that was held at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center in Kent, Ohio, the Shawnee State men's basketball program fell by a 103-61 count to the Kent State Golden Flashes' men's basketball program Thursday evening.
By the numbers
Shawnee State proved to be efficient from a shooting perspective when the Bears had their opportunities, as Shawnee State went 23-of-46 from the field to notch a 50 percent shooting mark from the field. The Bears were 21-of-32 (65.6 percent) from inside the three-point stripe against Kent State Thursday evening. Rebounding-wise, the Bears were bettered on the boards by a plus-13 margin by the Golden Flashes (36-23).
Depth, balance showcased against Division I opposition
Despite the loss, Shawnee State was able to run a deep bench throughout the 40-minute showdown -- with 12 different players scoring in the loss as different hands took turns heading the charge.
Keith Germain scored four points in both halves to post an eight-point outing, while Tony Webb, Jr. posted all eight of his tallies in the second half of competition to lead the Bears from a scoring standpoint as both players combined to go 6-of-10 from the floor. Tyreke Johnson and Tre Beard each added seven points apiece while combining to shoot 5-of-10 from the field, while AJ Belton added in six points in 18 minutes to lead the production off of the bench. Beard also posted a pair of steals for the Bears while Johnson posted six rebounds for Shawnee State.
Feisal Crumby, Jr. and Elkin Ramirez (five points each), John Dawson (four points), Damon Charles, Donn'Yae Ferguson and Landon Ray (three points each) and J.R. Lumsden (two points) rounded out the Bears' scoring in the contest.
