The Shawnee State women's soccer team welcomed the Bearcats from Brescia University on Saturday night for senior night at the Shawnee Turf. The Bears took the win with a 2-1 score.
Starting the first half, both teams had shots on goal in the first six minutes, but Julie Derenemesnil, keeper for the Bears, prevented the other team from scoring in the first minutes. The Bears had two more shots saved by Ashby Greenwell for Brescia. In the minute 32', the first goal of the game came for Brescia by Maci Uffelman. The Bears were unable to score in the first half, and the score remained 1-0 for the Bearcats as they went to halftime.
For the second half, the Bears came out hungry for a goal, and it was only two minutes into the second half when Haynna Addy put the ball in the back of the net, assisted by Lucie Ashkettle. In minute 54', a goal from Frederika Ntumba gave the Bears the lead in the game. The game would end 2-1 for the Bears.
With Saturday's win, the Bears stay fifth in the River States Conference and will travel to Indiana next Saturday for the quarterfinal match against IU East. The game will start at 7 PM.
