After back-to-back victories at home, the Shawnee State men's basketball team traveled to Tennessee for a pair of games on the road. On the first game of the road trip, the Bears fell in a high-scoring affair to Tennessee Southern, 93-88.
As the Bears have had their fair share of struggles on the road this season, the Firehawks made sure to start hot. Looking to take advantage of Shawnee's slow start, UTS ran out to a double-digit lead early in the first half. Brandon Beavers (12) and Latavious Mitchell (11) both put on scoring displays, but the Bears still trailed by 10 points at the break.
Coming out of the break on fire, Shawnee was able to bring the game back to a tie in a matter of minutes, it would however be a night for Tennessee Southern to shine. Whether it be a lack of shots falling or a tight Firehawk's defense, the Bears continued to trail. Giving the home side a scare though, Brandon Beavers did everything in his power to bring SSU back, scoring 13 points in the final two minutes of the game.
- Latavious Mitchell adds another double-double this season, scoring 21 and grabbing 11 rebounds
- Beavers continues to become a threat anytime he's on the court, scoring a game-high 27 points, snagging 8 rebounds, and dishing out 5 assists
- Jaiden Guice (17) and Felix Uadiale (12) also scored in double digits
The Bears will have another game in Tennesee before they head back home, facing off against Cumberland University on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
