League of Legends Returns With a Win

Last night, SSU League of Legends returned to play after the winter break. They opened the spring 2023 semester with a clean sweep against Keiser in Mid-South Conference.

Game one was a dominating 27-minute win, where the Bears earned a combined 23 eliminations, while only allowing the Seahawks to take 4. Top eliminations went to both Aaron Allen (gamertag: Turtlestrike) on Ryze and Zachary Farrar (gamertag: Cpt Wiley) as Kai'Sa, who claimed six each. Following closely was Jared Robb's (gamertag: Aatreon) Aatrox, with five. Top assists went to Chase Minor (gamertag: ArcticWolf) with 13 as Sejuani. Robb closely followed again by assisting his teammates 12 times. Allen earned the best creep score in the match, earning 9.9 per minute.

Game two was another decisive win; requiring only 24 minutes for the Bears to close out the set. The elimination disparity this time was smaller, with the Bears claiming 23 total, while conceding only 11. The most notable difference this time was instead the unit's total assists. The Bears showcased their teamwork and earned a staggering 41 assists overall, while the Seahawks totaled 17. Robb topped the list on overall eliminations, with ten to his credit. Following him was Allen with seven. Accounting for over half of the assist total was the efforts of two players. Minor held the most assists with 16, followed by Ethan Popp (gamertag: LegendaryEtan) with 12. Three SSU players nearly tied for top creep score, with Allen earning 8.5 per minute, Robb earning 8.4 per minute and Farrar earning 8.3 per minute.

League of Legends Academy also played in Mid-South conference last night, facing Campbellsville. Despite their best efforts, they fell 0 – 2 in the match.

Game one was a short 20-minute run, where the JV Bears claimed only ten eliminations, while conceding 31. Top eliminations for the Bears went to Nia Anderson (gamertag: KiloDestiny) with half the unit's eliminations. Brandon Reed (gamertag: SenpaiAtTheDisco) earned top eliminations for the unit with five, followed closely by Dustin Simpkins (gamertag: Breadlofe) who earned four in his League of Legends debut. PoYun Kuan (gamertag: kuna TW) fell the fewest times of the unit, managing to total only two deaths. Topping the Bears board for total gold earned was Thomas de Graauw (gamertag: Melegim) with 6,818.

Game two was a similar story, with the unit falling in a 22-minute game. Of the unit's seven total eliminations, Kuan, Simpkins and Anderson split most of them evenly, earning two each. The final was held by de Graauw. Kuan earned the most gold among the squad, with 7,502, as well as the fewest deaths. He and Simpkins both fell four times.

League of Legends Varsity continues their Mid-South season on January 23, where they face the Shawnee State JV team at 7:00 PM. This match will be broadcast by MSC.
