Looking to redeem their only loss in their last ten games, the Shawnee State men's basketball team hosted the University of the Cumberlands. After running away with the lead in the first half, the Bears never looked back, winning 86-77.
There have not been many games the Bears can say they outplayed their performance in terms of their first half against the Patriots. After 10 minutes in the first half, the Bears were still shooting nearly 70% from the field, with Latavious Mitchell being the standout performer. Coming off his previous game where he was in foul trouble early on, this game he would score 14 points and 7 rebounds in his 14 minutes on the floor.
Carrying a 17-point lead into the second half, both teams dueled back and forth. Cumberlands outscored Shawnee in the period 46-38, while a scoring outburst from Brandon Beavers kept the Bears in the driver's seat until time had expired. His 19 points, along with 10 points from Tre Baumgardner III ensured the Bears a victory, finishing with an 86-77 lead.
- The massive outburst from Beavers included a team-leading 28 points, also adding in 6 rebounds and 5 assists
- Latavious Mitchell tacked on another double-double to his season tally, with 17 points and 13 rebounds
- Baumgardner III (15) and Felix Uadiale (10) also scored in double digits
Continuing conference play, the Bears will travel to Georgetown College. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. this Saturday.
