Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bears Win Two In A Row

The Shawnee State men's soccer team would look to solidify their standing in a road matchup against the Rochester University Warriors. Aside from a late goal, the Bears would look a step ahead, winning with a four-goal advantage and the final score reading 5-1.

SSU would look to score early and often as the Dutch connection of Thomas de Graauw and Kevin de Lange would lead to the Bear's opening goal in the 17th minute. Twenty minutes later, the same duo would flip the goal scorer and assister while also doubling the lead for the away side.

As the Bears have shown they are capable this season, their second half only got better. Nikos Pontikis would open the scoring just ten minutes into the second half while making a marauding run from right back and being assisted by de Lange. After finding his teammates for two assists though, de Lange would find an opening for himself and add another goal to his tally, making an even two goals and assists on the day.

The Warriors would make sure the Bears wouldn't walk away with a clean sheet, as Dmitar Stankovic would put an assist from Nik Gjonaj in the back of the net. A last-minute goal from Bruno Rovares would prove to be the final goal in an impressive showing for the Bears.

  • Three goal contributions from de Graauw
  • Four-goal contributions for de Lange

Shawnee State will play again Sunday, September 11, when they host Sienna Heights University. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
