Shawnee State's volleyball team finished their weekend round-robin tournament at Marian University on Saturday. The Bears would play the host team Marian Knights in their first game. The second game would feature Roosevelt University, which they had the day before.
Game 1
SSU would take on the Knights in the first match of the afternoon. After an ace by Regan Lewis and a kill by Haidyn Wamsley, the Bears found themselves within three points of the Knights in the first set, but momentum was in control by the Knights as they would score 13 of the next, 15 taking set one 25-11. It would look very similar to the first, as the Bears scored in single points, whereas the Knights would score in bursts. With a second set score of 25-16, Marian would move to 2-0 over the Bears in the first match. On to the third set, where the teams would battle back and forth for the points and win of the third set. The Bears would fall to the host team 25-18 and a 3-0 match loss.
Game 2
Shawnee State would face a familiar foe in the Lakers of Roosevelt University, whom they had played the day before in a five-set war. In the first set, each team would have its own set of runs, with the Bears having the last laugh. SSU would go on to score the last 10 of 13 points, which was started by a kill from Bethany Colling and then an ace by Abbie Kallner. The set ended after a kill from Macie Rhodes would seal the 25-17 set win. The Bears would dominate set two, only allowing the Lakers to get 11 points in the set and going on multiple runs throughout. Both teams were tied early at six in the third set, but Shawnee would go on to win 13 of the next 16 points, giving them a 10-point lead. The Lakers would try to mount a comeback late, but the Bears were too much to handle as they would win the set 25-16 and match 3-0 to end the weekend.
