Saturday afternoon, the Bears traveled to Williamsburg, Kentucky to take on the University of Cumberlands in this week's Mid-South Conference series. Both teams battled some snow flurries and the chill that was in the air. The Bears and Patriots would play a nail-biting game full of excitement but the Bears ran out of luck as they would fall 8-7.
Shawnee State fell behind early after UC jumped on the board scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Bears would bounce back, as they would score four runs in the top of the third led by Howie Rodriguez, who would hit a three-run homer to left-center field. The score would be close or knotted up from that point on in the game. The Bears would tie and take the lead in the top of the seventh, as George Duran and Rodriguez would hit back-to-back bombs putting SSU up 6-5. When all was said and done the Bears would heartbreakingly fall to the Patriots after a walk-off homer would end the game, Bears would fall 8-7
- Rodriguez 2-5 with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs
- Duran 2-4 with 2 HRs and 2 RBIs
The Bears will be back in action Sunday afternoon as they finish the series with UC. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
