The Bears traveled to Georgetown, Kentucky this Friday for a DH against the Georgetown College Tigers. The first game saw the Tigers pulling ahead after SSU put up the first run. In the second game, the Bears would take the victory.
Cassie Schaefer took to the circle first for the Bears, pitching for five innings and coming out in the sixth. Schaefer would give up six runs off of four hits and would add three strikeouts. Ashley Fite would replace Schaefer in the sixth, allowing only one hit and getting one strikeout. The Bears would jump out to an early lead in the first after Rylie Hughes would hit a shot down the right-field line and knock Ashton Rankin home. But the Tigers responded quickly with two first-inning runs. Georgetown would put four more runners across the plate in the sixth inning, beating Shawnee State 6-1.
Cameryn Davidson would throw a complete game for the Bears in the second game, she would limit the Tigers to three runs off of seven hits and also notch one strikeout. The beginning of the match looked troublesome for Shawnee State, as Georgetown College managed to score two runs in the first two innings unanswered. But the Bears would soon turn the game around after Ashley Fite would send one over the center-field wall to take the lead. Both Fite and Brittani Wolfenbarker would lead SSU's offense with two RBIs apiece. The Bears would easily put away the Tigers after their offensive surge, winning 5-3.
The Bears will finish out their series with Georgetown College with another DH tomorrow, April 16, with the first pitch to be thrown at 1:00 PM.
