SSU Drops DH

The SSU Bears played host to nationally ranked Lindsey Wilson College this afternoon at Doc Singleton Park.

Game 1

SSU grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first. Brittani Wolfenbarker started things off with a bunt single and reached second on a stolen base. Ashley Fite drove a ball to the left-field wall just missing a home run but bringing in Wolfenbarker to score. The Bears were able to hang on the lead through the first couple innings.

LWC took the lead in the 4th scoring two runs on a Sam Sims single. SSU quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning. Aleeya Adkins singled down the third baseline and took second on a throwing error. Sunshine Armstrong then smashed onto the left-field wall for a double and picked up the RBI as Adkins scored.

However, the 5th inning was the turning point as LWC scored 4. A lead-off double, a couple of seeing-eye singles, and opportunistic base running allowed the Blue Raiders to plate 4, and take a 6-2. They added a run in the 7th for a 7-2 final score.

Game 2

LWC started game two scoring 4 runs on Lexi Isable's grand slam. SSU was able to get a run across in the second when an error allowed Kylie Ray to score. SSU continued to threaten to put runners in scoring position in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. However, they were unable to cut into the LWC lead. Lindsey Wilson kept SSU's base runners from crossing the plate even though they managed to get 8 hits in the matchup.

Shawnee State had three pitchers take the mound; Cameryn Davidson started, Faith Brown came in during the second inning, and Ashley Fite came in during the 6th to close out the game. SSU lost the game 8-1.

The Bears are back in action tomorrow 3/18 at Doc Singleton taking on #13 Lindsey Wilson for a DH to complete the series with the first pitch slated for 10 AM.
