Game Recap: Baseball |

Bears Split Against Cardinals

The Shawnee State Bears were back in action today as they took on Concordia University. The Bears would lose a tough fought first game 7-9 but come back in game two to win 11-5.

Game 1

The Bears would start this windy day with all of the energy getting the first six players on, scoring five in the top half of the first inning. The scoring was highlighted around Tanner Lund's grand slam to left-center field. The Bear's offense would be cooled off by Cardinal pitching not getting another run crossing the plate till the fifth inning. Pitching would be solid for the Bears with Kyle Wisniewski pitching four and two-thirds innings with a hand full of hits given up. Concordia would get hot towards the end of the game toping the Bears 9-7 in game one.

Game 2

Concordia would start the game with the heat from game one scoring two in the first and one in the third putting the Bears down early 3-0 going into the fourth. When the top of the fourth came around the Bears figured something out about the Cardinal pitching scoring eight off back-to-back bombs from Scott Herrmann and Javier Santiago. Shawnee's pitching staff would handle the Cardinals offense, for the most part. Jacob Gleason went four innings with six strikeouts, Ryan Scott would go next going two innings, and Marty Knittel would come in to finish it. The Bear's offense would stay hot the rest of the game with Jacob Kline, George Duran, and Lund would all double; Duran and Lund each doubling twice. Jacob Heighton would be subbed into the game, in his first at-bat, he would earn his first collegiate hit. His next two at-bats would each be a walk. Concordia would not be able to catch the Bears as Shawnee takes the win 11-5.

The Bears will be back in action against Concordia Monday afternoon, with the first game starting at noon.
