Rocket League Falls Short in CRL Qualifiers

SSU Rocket League recently participated in College Rocket League qualifying tournament play in hopes of earning a spot in the main competition. Unfortunately, they fell short in both tournaments. Here's the recap:

During the September 25 qualifier, the Bears had earned a two-win streak before falling into the lower bracket. The unit opened with a 2-0 win against Ball State, a 2-1 win against Virginia Tech and then fell to Michigan Tech 1-2. In the lower bracket, they earned three more wins for their record, including a 3-2 win against Rutgers, a 2-0 win against Great Valley State University and 3-1 in a rematch with Michigan Tech. However, they couldn't complete the lower bracket run and fell to Brewton-Parker College 0-3 in the finals.

During the October 3 qualifier, the Bears nearly completed the run and qualified. They earned four wins in the upper bracket, 2-0 against both Brown University and University of New Haven. They won 2-1 against Kent State and nabbed a 3-0 from Lebanon Valley College. They were then knocked to lower bracket with an 0-3 loss to Seton Hall. After grabbing a 3-1 win from Northeastern to win the lower bracket final, they faced Seton Hall in a grand finals rematch. They won the first match 3-2, which reset the bracket, but couldn't keep the momentum in the final match. They ended their qualifier run with another 0-3 loss to Seton Hall.

Representing the Bears in both qualifiers was Zach Ellis (gamertag: FireRaptor), Matthew Boldman (gamertag: Zioht) and PJ Fiscus (gamertag: Fisci25).

Next up for SSU Rocket League is a NACE season match against Iona College on October 3. Game time is 7:00 PM. Full schedule information can be found at www.ssubears.com/schedule/0/22.php. To watch the SSU Esports teams in action, visit www.twitch.tv/team/shawneestateuniversity.
