Rocket League finished their NACE regular season undefeated with an exciting double header win against King College (3-2) and University of Maryland (3-1) on October 17.
Rocket League vs King College 3-2 W
This exciting five-game win saw the Bears take their first game losses of the season, while still claiming the game 5 win. Game one saw back-and-forth play, where the Bears fell 2-3. Both goals were scored by Matthew Boldman (gamertag: Zioht) with teammates Zach Ellis (gamertag: FireRaptor) and PJ Fiscus (gamertag: Fisci25) earning one assist each. Game two was a completely different story, where the Bears claimed a 4-1 win. Fiscus and Ellis nabbed two goals each, with Boldman earning three assists. Each member of the unit was also credited with two saves.
Game three maintained their momentum, with a 4-3 win. During this game, the unit scored four times in the first half, then conceding three in the latter half as they sought to maintain their lead. Boldman played a role in all four goals; three were to his credit while he assisted on one scored by Ellis. Game four was a 1-4 loss for the unit, who scored the first goal but couldn't maintain the lead. Ellis and Boldman earned two saves each, while Fiscus was assisted by Boldman on the team's lone goal.
The final game was an exciting 4-3 win for the Bears. After conceding an early lead, the unit came alive to reclaim the match. Boldman scored three goals in the span of a minute to turn the 1-3 game into the 4-3 needed to win.
Rocket League vs. University of Maryland 3-1 W
Fresh off their win against King, the unit moved on to defeat the University of Maryland in a 3-1 match. The first game was a close call that went into overtime, when the Bears claimed a goal to end it 2-1 and take the lead. Boldman and Ellis claimed one goal each. Game two was an easy 2-0 win for the squad, both of which were scored by Ellis and assisted by Boldman.
Game three was where the Bears saw a 1-2 loss, with Maryland earning an overtime goal. The lone goal for the unit was earned by Boldman. Ellis earned three saves this game, with Boldman and Fiscus earning two each. The SSU squad earned a final 2-1 win in game four. Ellis secured the win with a buzzer beater goal thanks to teamwork from Fiscus. The other goal for the game was earned by Boldman and once again assisted by Fiscus.
SSU Rocket League will return on October 29 as they face a rematch against King University for the Conference Playoffs Finals. Game time is 3:00 PM.
