On Monday, October 17th, the Shawnee State Men's golf team hosted the opening round of the Roger Merb Invitational at the Portsmouth Elks Country Club.
All 14 members of the Men's Golf team competed in the first round of Shawnee State's home tournament. Players were spread out over an 'A" "B" and "C" team. Making up the Shawnee State "A" team would be Daulton McDonald, Austin Barta, Alex Pratt, Tanner Stevenson, and Kyle Salamon. Scores for the "A" team would be McDonald (76/ T11th), Barta (77/ T13th), Pratt (82/T31st), Stevenson (81/T25th), and Salamon (77/T13th). This would put the "A" team in 3rd place out of 8 teams after round 1.
The Shawnee State "B" team was made up of Logan Hughes, Bodie Hillwig, Caleb Davis, Brett Bentley, and Trey Albert. Round 1 scores for the "B" team would be Hughes (79/T22nd), Hillwig (83/T34th), Davis (82/T31st), Bentley (82/T31st), and Albert (78/T16th). After round 1 the "B" is in 6th place out of 8 teams for the tournament.
Lastly, the Shawnee State "C" team would include Tyler Roberts, Austin Decot, Ben Flanders, and Gavin Baker. The "C" team would post scores of Roberts (81/T25th), Decot (78/T16th), Flanders (75/T6th), and Baker (90/T43rd). These scores would put the "C" team into 7th place out of 8 teams for the tournament.
The Men's Golf team will be back in action for round 2 of the Roger Merb tomorrow, Tuesday, October 18th, at the Portsmouth Elks Country Club. Players will tee off in a shotgun start format at 11 a.m.
