Looking to add another win to their conference season, the Shawnee State men's soccer team would travel two states away, where they would play Freed-Hardeman. In what can only be described as a physical game, the Bears would hold on with only nine players to win 2-1.
The officials for the game would make sure that the Bears and their counterparts were on their best behavior, dishing out three yellow cards within the first twenty minutes of the game. Neither team would give away many shots on goal, but Eric Green would show his ability between the sticks, making one spectacular save that would allow the Bears to keep a first-half clean sheet. Though Freed-Hardeman would do well to defend, in the last minute of the first half the Bears would have their most fruitful attack, with Kevin de Lange's shot being saved as the buzzer would sound.
With that momentum propelling the team forward, Shawnee would come out swinging in the second half. After just two minutes Thomas de Graauw would deliver a corner into the box, finding one of Lion's heads as well as the goal. Continuing to put shots up, the tremendous duo of de Lange and de Graauw would yet again link up to score the second goal of the game, with the help of Joao Toledo. Straight from kickoff the Lions would find the Bears hibernating and score after just twenty seconds, bringing the score to 2-1. The remainder of the game wouldn't see any more goals but would see fouls and cards galore. By the expiration of time, there had been a total of twelve bookings, including three red cards.
- One goal for Kevin de Lange
- Two assists for de Graauw
- One assist for Toledo
The Bears will be happy to come away with another conference victory, but they will have little time to recover before playing again on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CST at Bethel University.
