The Bears got back on track this afternoon in Waller Gymnasium, knocking off LWC 92-89. Miles Thomas scored 32 points, SSU grabbed the lead for good at the start of the second half, and kept it the final 13 minutes of the contest.
Lindsey Wilson took control of the game at the start. They hit 3 threes in the early minutes and built a 13-2 lead right out of the gate. They continued their hot shooting, while building a 16 point lead, 34-18. However, at the 6 minute media timeout, SSU switched defenses, and saw immediate results. LWC was whistled for a 10 second violation and SSU grabbed the momentum. The defensive adjustment gave SSU renewed energy, and kept the Blue Raiders out of any offensive rhythm the remainder of the half. Miles Thomas found his range, hitting 4 threes including one at the halftime buzzer, completing a 20-6 run and bringing the LWC lead to 2, 40-38 at the break.
James Jones knocked down a three to start the second half giving SSU their first lead. Another Jones lay-up a few moments later gave the Bears a 45-44 lead with just under 18 minutes left. A Calvin Fugett lay-up at the 13 minute mark knotted the score at 55. However, Elijah Bishop connected on a pair from the line, followed by another Miles Thomas three, which extended the SSU lead to 5. The Bears were able to extend the lead, punctuated by an emphatic left handed dunk by Miles Thomas to give SSU their first double-digit lead, 84-74, with under 3 minutes to go. LWC battled to final buzzer bringing it back to a 1 possession game as Connor Robinson connected on a three with 1.2 seconds left, but that would be the final, as the Bears get the 92-89 win.
