The women's soccer program at Shawnee State used a late winner by Eilidh Mchattie to break an 88-minute, 30-second deadlock between the Bears and the Union Bulldogs' soccer program as SSU escaped with a 1-0 triumph over Union in a Saturday evening nonconference matchup that was held in Barbourville, Ky.

Shawnee State, who posted a dominating 23-4 edge in shots and a 10-5 advantage on corner kicks, were -- as the stats indicated -- the superior unit for much of the match from an advance standpoint. However, SSU was held scoreless until Mchattie struck off of a feed from Paige Alford, with the pair providing the two timely touches necessary to put Shawnee State ahead for good in the affair.

The goal marks the fourth of the season and the 15th of Mchattie's career. The Aberdeen, Scotland native has 33 career points following the fourth game of her third season in a SSU uniform. Alford, meanwhile, posted her fifth career assist and now has 22 total tallies following -- like Mchattie -- the fourth game of her third year with the Bears.

With the win, Shawnee State won its fifth straight match against Union dating back to Oct. 11, 2016. Interestingly enough, each of those five affairs have all been decided by one goal in SSU's favor.

SSU's women (3-1) will face Trinity Christian, Ill. (3-0) in a Labor Day doubleheader that will also feature the men's soccer program. The doubleheader commences at Shawnee Turf at 1 p.m.
