SSU SB drops home openers to MMU in 6-2 defeats

The softball program at Shawnee State posted solid offensive days at the plate overall, but couldn't obtain victory as the Bears fell by 6-2 margins to Martin Methodist Friday afternoon in Mid-South Conference doubleheader action in Portsmouth.

Kalle Coleman led the way in the opener as the junior, following an early 5-0 Martin Methodist advantage in Game 1, hit an inside-the-park home run to score both herself and Mo Wolansky to cut the Martin Methodist lead to a 5-2 margin in the first contest. However, Shawnee State wasn't able to muster an additional extra base hit in the contest in the 6-2 setback.

In the second contest, Shawnee State saw a more balanced offensive attack, with Wolansky, Brittani Wolfenbarker, Sunterius Armstrong, Gracie Keplinger, Madison Sifford, and Kylie Ray notching at least a hit apiece with Wolansky posting a multi-hit outing.

However, a double by Armstrong in the fourth frame of play was the only extra base hit that the Bears were able to muster in the second contest as Shawnee State couldn't claim the big hit in the 6-2 defeat. Martin Methodist also didn't commit a single error over the two games while SSU misplayed eight balls.

Shawnee State will face Martin Methodist in a two-game doubleheader that will start at 11 a.m.
