SSU drops 4-2, 9-3 decisions to Bethel

The softball program at Shawnee State dropped a pair of decisions in its Mid-South Conference doubleheader Saturday, as the Bears fell by 4-2 and 9-4 decisions to Bethel (Tenn.) in contests played in Portsmouth.

Shawnee State ultimately took a 2-1 lead in both affairs to begin the game before falling by the aforementioned counts. Schaefer went 1-for-3 with a run scored in the opener as well, scoring on an error while Ashton Rankin launched an RBI single to center field as part of a 2-for-3 day at the plate.

In Game 2, Brittani Wolfenbarker and Gracie Keplinger led Shawnee State with two hits apiece in three official at-bats. Kylie Ray and Sunterius Armstrong drove in the lone RBIs in the final contest of the doubleheader.

Shawnee State will play two against Bethel (Tenn.) beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday morning.
