SSU played another close game, but fell to Lawrence Tech in the first game of the Siena Heights Thanksgiving Tournament. The Bears took a late lead, but fell 73-69.
SSU grabbed an early 5-3 lead, but a four minute scoring drought allowed LTU to take a 10-5 lead. Tech shot 71% in the first quarter to take a 24-17 advantage. The second was an evenly played quarter. SSU picked up their defense, but headed into the half down 39-33.
The second half started with a Marnae Holland lay-up and was close with SSU forcing turnovers and converting in transition. However, the Bears were unable to connect from the floor the last 4 minutes of the quarter and saw the LTU lead grow to 55-46 leading to the 4th.
SSU had plenty of fight as they came all the way back to grab the lead on multiple occasions. The defense forced 27 LTU turnovers that lead to 35 points for the Bears. The Bears took a 65-63 lead with just over 3 minutes remaining, but they would not make another field goal the rest of the way.
The Bears are back in action Sunday when they take on the hosts, Siena Heights at 4:00.
