Bears Dominate Home Match Against Freed-Hardeman

The Bears took on Freed-Hardeman University earlier today, dominating play and outshooting the Lions 29 to 2. The Bears were able to get on the scoresheet in the first half, and continued their offensive run against the Lions, as they were able to have four different people pick up a goal in the match.

The Bears put high pressure on the Lions from kickoff, as a foul from Freed-Hardeman put Shawnee in scoring position. Daan Louwerse would take the first shot for the Bears, who put the ball just high of the crossbar. Brenna Woodard would follow just after with a shot on goal, but was saved by Freed-Hardeman goalkeeper Brooke Latham. Carlota Ipiña Taylor would have two shots back to back in the 9th minute, but sent both of them just wide of the goal. Paige Alford would take a shot outside of the box in the 19th minute, forcing Latham to make another save, giving Shawnee a corner kick. The corner was taken by Alba Closa Tarres, who found Eilidh Mchattie in the box, who put a shot on goal, but was saved by Latham. In the next 15 minutes Carlota Ipiña Taylor, Madison Humble, Jule Kalmer, Eilidh Mchattie, and Alba Closa Tarres would all take a shot on goal, but were unable to find the net past Latham.

In the 37th minute, Eilidh Mchattie would find Brenna Woodard, as Woodard took a touch past a Freed-Hardeman defender in the box and finished past Latham, putting the Bears up 1 on the scoresheet. The Bears would finish the half with a shot from Alba Closa Tarres and Daan Louwerse taking a shot off frame, and Madison Humble put one more shot on goal for the Bears, but could not extend the lead before halftime.

Shawnee State would start the second half off strong, as they were able to get two back to back corner kicks, but were unable to extend their lead. In the 57th minute, Eilidh Mchattie was able to pick up the ball after a deflection off of a Freed-Hardeman defender. Mchattie would take two touches past Freed-Hardeman defense and put a shot into the back of the net to extend the Bear's lead to 2 early in the second half. In the 60th minute, Alba Closa Tarres would take a corner kick, who found Carlota IpiñaTaylor in the box. Taylor took a shot on goal, but was saved by Freed-Hardeman defense and rebounded back to Taylor, who put another shot on goal, and saved once again by Freed-Hardeman defenders. Another corner kick, taken by Alba Closa Tarres, would find Lucy Snyder in the box, who took a shot, but was saved by Freed-Hardeman defenders off of the goal line.

In the 82nd minute, Bianca Robinson would play a long ball forward over the Freed-Hardeman defense to find Carlota Ipiña Taylor. Taylor took a touch towards the goal line and sent the ball across the box to find Paige Alford, who finished in the back of the net to get on the scoresheet for the Bears. In the 83rd minute, Eilidh Mchattie would take another shot on goal, but hit the crossbard and rebounded out of the box. Freed-Hardeman would then give a foul to Shawnee just outside of their box, putting the Bears in a strong scoring position. Alba Closa Tarres took the free kick, sending the ball to the back post, finishing in the top corner to put the Bears up with a lead of 4. The Bears would finish the second half with a set of corner kicks, but were unable to add to their lead.

The Bears are next in action on Saturday, October 23rd, as they look to take on Bethel University at Shawnee in their next Mid-South Conference Match. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30pm.
