Saints Outlast Bears 3-1

Shawnee State Volleyball continues to play well, despite dropping second straight MSC contest. The Saints of Thomas More were able to escape with a 3-1 win vs. the Bears in a hard fought match.

The Bears were able to get off to a fast start in set one, jumping out to an early lead. However, TMU went on a 6-0 run to climb right back into the set taking a 13-10 lead. SSU quickly regained their composure to tie the score at 16 setting up an exciting finish to the first set. Unfortunately, the Saints were able to prevail, 25-23 to take the lead 1-0. Set two would be play itself out just like the first set. The Bears took another early lead, only to have the Saints climb back to tie the score at 17. The final points again went TMU's way, as they took a 2-0 lead, by winning the second set with an identical, 25-23 score.

SSU flipped the script in the third set. This time, it was Thomas More who jumped out to an early, 8-2 lead. However, there was plenty of fight in the Bears. Following a quick timeout by Coach Devan Scarberry, SSU regained its composure and controlled the rest of the set. They would knot the score at 15 and continue their stellar play. Shawnee took set three, 25-19 getting themselves right back in the match. The fourth set was another competitive frame for both clubs. TMU got an early lead, but wasn't able to shake the Bears until the very end. The Saints took the deciding set, 25-19 and the match 3-1 to improve their record to 21-3 (9-2 MSC) while dropping the Bears to 15-9 (4-8 MSC).

  • Maddie Payne (JR/Ontario, Ohio) assisted on 27 kills to go along with 4 digs
  • Bethany Colling (FR/Duncan Falls, Ohio) hit .250 with 7 kills
  • Maria Kolinoff (SR/Canal Fulton, Ohio) was stellar defensively collecting 20 digs
  • Kylee Barney (FR/Wheelersburg, Ohio) had 9 kills on the afternoon
