Shawnee State senior wing James Jones, behind a pair of outings where the Chicago, Ill. native averaged 27 points, 4.5 assists, and three rebounds per game in wins over No. 11 Cumberlands (Ky.) and Pikeville last week, was named as the Mid-South Conference's Player of the Week for the third time, as announced by conference officials Monday afternoon.
Jones, who was averaging 19.9 points per contest coming into the week, led the Bears in both points and assists against Cumberlands (Ky.) and Pikeville.
Against Cumberlands, Ky., Jones scored 18 of his 28 points in the second half to seal the victory, all while posting four assists to just two turnovers for the contest. Against Pikeville, Jones backed up his output with another fantastic performance, scoring 15 of his 26 points in the opening half of play.
He led SSU again with five assists -- all while not committing a single turnover -- over the course of the game to finish the two-game set with nine assists to just two turnovers in all for a 4.5-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
For the season, Jones is averaging 21.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. He leads the team in points and points per game and is tied for the team lead in assists and assists per game. He has scored in double-figures in each of his 11 games, and has posted six games with 20 points or more as well as four games where he's scored at least 25 or more points.
