The women's basketball program at Shawnee State, behind victories in the first eight games that it played to start the 2020-21 regular season, have moved up a pair of spots in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll as the Bears sit No. 7 overall in the latest version of the rankings.
Shawnee State, who currently sits 8-1 overall following the first nine games of the season, have allowed 62 points or less in each of its eight victories. Of those contests, the Bears have allowed 55 or less points in four of those wins, including holding Life (Ga.) to 48 points and Martin Methodist (Tenn.) to 50 tallies in two big Mid-South Conference wins.
For the season, Shawnee State, as a team, ranks inside the top-20 nationally in five different categories:
- 12th in scoring margin (plus-22.8)
- 15th in turnover margin (plus-eight)
- 16th in offensive rebounds per game (16.9)
- 20th in total steals (105)
- 20th in scoring offense (749)
Individually, Shawnee State has five players averaging double-figures in scoring, including Brandie Snow (17.6), Natalie Zuchowski (12.6), Carson Roney (12.1), Marnae Holland (11.6), and Anyia Pride (10.8).
Snow, who leads Shawnee State in steals (38), steals per game (4.2), assists (34), assists per game (3.8), free throws made (30), free throw percentage (75 percent), and field goals made (57) as well as sitting second on the team in rebounds (6.4), has won the Mid-South Conference's Player of the Week Award on two separate occasions this season.
Over the entirety of the poll, Westmont (Calif.) holds the top spot with 581 points and 12 first-place votes to its credit, while Wayland Baptist (Texas) and Campbellsville (Ky.) tied for second place overall with 566 apiece while combining for the remaining nine first-place tallies. The Master's (Calif.) and Oklahoma City rounded out the top-five.
