Following a excellent freshman campaign that saw Toledo, Ohio's Jakiel Wells contribute heavily to a SSU program that went 21-11 overall and obtain its most wins since the 2001-02 unit that set the school record with 22 victories, Wells, one of four players who appeared in all 32 games last season, will be back to provide leadership and a strong general IQ of the game to the 2020-21 group.
Wells, who led Shawnee State in total assists (86) and steals (43) in 2019-20, has 20 starts under his belt from a year prior. The sophomore notched six double-figure scoring outputs during the 2019-20 season, including a career-high 16 points against Campbellsville last January. Wells also posted 10 games where he had two steals or more, 18 games with five or more rebounds, and 11 games with four or more assists.
