Cincinnati, Ohio – Shawnee State men's and women's tennis teams fell to Cumberland Tennessee on Sunday with both losing 9-0.
Men's tennis would start the day with Jacob Freeland (FR/Marietta, Ohio) and Austin Hanshaw (FR/Chapmanville, West Virginia) falling to the Phoenix top two players in doubles 8-1. The teams of Zack Fox (FR/Bow Mar, Colorado)/ Carter Nolte (FR/Germantown, Ohio) and Niko Richards (FR/Stockbridge, Georgia)/Zach Colley (JR/Portsmouth, Ohio) would also fall to the Phoenix 8-0.
In singles play Colley would face off with Cumberland number 4 winning the only game for the Bears on the day, but ultimately fell 6-0,6-1.
Women's tennis would start out in doubles play with a loss in a matchup of 1's as Jessica Williard and Regan Osborn (FR/Portsmouth, Ohio) would fall 8-0. In the 2's and 3's matchup the teams of Claire Carruthers (FR/Clarksville, Ohio)/Molly Stockton (FR/Cincinnati, Ohio) and Shelby Hay (JR/Louisa, Kentucky)/Caleigh O'Neal (SR/Greenup, Kentucky) would each win a game a piece falling 8-1 to the lady Phoenix.
Singles would be much of the same. Jessica Williard and Claire Carruthers would each win a game for the lady Bears, but ultimately fell 6-0,6-1.
The Bears will return to action on Wednesday where they will take on Georgetown in Georgetown Kentucky at 3:00 p.m.
