Softball Improves to 9-1 Following Day 5 of the Myrtle Beach Classic

North Myrtle Beach, SC – The Shawnee State Bears win two more games in the Myrtle Beach Classic and move their overall record to 9-1 on the season.

Game One:

Score: SSU: 15, Silver Lake College: 0

McKenzie Whittaker (SR/McDermott, Ohio) started for the Bears against Silver Lake College in a shut-out performance. Whittaker would go on to complete the game, receiving the shut-out victory in the process, on one hit allowed with four strikeouts through five innings of work as the game was ended due to a mercy ruling.

The Bears would start the game off right as they would record back-to-back singles off Alayna Yates (FR/Vanceburg, Kentucky) and Gracie Keplinger (FR/Georgetown, Ohio). Two errors would allow the Bears to capitalize along with a sacrifice fly and a walk. Marissa Markins (FR/Lucasville, Ohio) would then double scoring two which culminated a six run first inning for the Bears. One more run would be scored in the second followed by five runs in the third and the final three in the fourth inning marking fifteen runs scored for the Bears as they go on to shut out the Lakers.

Game Two:

Score: SSU: 7, Norwich University: 6

Paige Oldham (FR/Shelbyville, Kentucky) started game two for the Bears as she finished with the complete game. Oldham would allow four earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts in the outing against Norwich University.

Shawnee State's Ashtyn Saunders (JR/Lancaster, Ohio) would start the first inning off with a double and later score off the single from Maureen Wolansky (SO/Cleveland, Ohio). In the third, Saunders and Wolansky started the rally with back-to-back singles for the Bears that would later be the catalyst in an error and back-to-back walks that ultimately scored four runs in the inning. As the Bears scored a run in the fourth, it was the run in seventh inning of Stacy Trenholm (SO/Lancaster, Ohio)'s double and Marisa Brown (SR/Liberty Township, Ohio)'s RBI single that would seal the deal for the Bears against the Cadets.

The Shawnee State Bears return on Friday, March 15th in their final game of the Myrtle Beach Classic against Iowa Wesleyan College at 1:30 PM, ET.
