North Myrtle Beach, SC – The Shawnee State Bears split their two games on day three of the Myrtle Beach Classic
Game One:
Score: SSU: 6, Spalding University: 11
McKenzie Whittaker returned to the circle again for the Bears, but Spalding University brought a great game. Whittaker pitched a complete game allowing ten earned runs off thirteen hits along with two strikeouts.
The Bears would not go down easily as they would produce two runs at the top of the first inning via a single from Ashtyn Saunders, double from Maureen Wolansky that scored Saunders and later a sacrifice fly by Marisa Brown. The Bears would score three more runs in the fourth inning in a collective effort. Later in fifth inning, the Bears would score their sixth and final run in a losing effort to Spalding University.
Game Two:
Score: SSU: 9, Pennsylvania College of Technology: 0
Paige Oldham started game two for the Bears as they looked to rebound off their first loss of the season. Oldham would go on to pitch a no-hitter along with two strikeouts as the game ended in the fifth inning due to a mercy rule.
Offensively, the Bears would go onto to an explosive first inning that scored seven runs for Shawnee State. Oldham would get the ball rolling with a single that scored Stacy Trenholm. The big hit would come from Mackenzie Riley as she would hit a triple scoring three Bears in the process. Haley Rawlins would be the last score for the Bears in the first off Ashtyn Saunders single. The Bears would score two more in second inning as they would go on to the final of 9-0 against Pennsylvania College of Technology.
The Shawnee State Bears will return to the field on Wednesday, March 12th, for Day Four of the Myrtle Beach Classic as they will face Lincoln College at 1:30 PM, ET and Ohio Christian University at 3:30 PM, ET.
