Softball Stay Unbeaten on day 2 of the Myrtle Beach Classic

North Myrtle Beach, SC – Following their first two wins of the season, The Bears continue their spring break tour of North Myrtle Beach by adding two more victories over Cincinnati Christian and Lincoln College on Monday.

Game One:

Score: SSU: 6, Cincinnati Christian University: 5

McKenzie Whittaker (SR/McDermott, Ohio) would get the nod for her second appearance of the season for the Bears against Cincinnati Christian University. Whittaker would go on to throw a complete game giving up four earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

Stacy Trenholm (SO/Lancaster, Ohio) capitalized on an early error with a double that scored Ashtyn Saunders (JR/Lancaster, Ohio). Trenholm would later score allowing the Bears to take the lead early. The Bears returned in the second inning with four consecutive singles followed by a walk and another single. The collective effort scored themselves four runs for the Bears in the second inning and for the game as the Bears took their six runs to the end for the victory over the Eagles.

Game Two:

Score: SSU: 9, Lincoln College: 7

Paige Oldham took the mound for the Bears against Lincoln College in the second game of the day for Shawnee State. Oldham would pitch her first career complete game for the Bears, giving up seven runs with only two being earned runs, on eight hits, with five strikeouts.

The first inning is where the Bears did the damage with six runs scored. Stacy Trenholm knocked in two Bears with a triple and then Mackenzie Riley (SR/Proctorville, Ohio) knocked in two more with a double to make it 4-0. Two more runners scored by the end of the inning allowing the Bears to take an early advantage in the game. The Bears ended up scoring three more runs, one in the fifth and two in the sixth inning which would be enough for the Bears to extend their record to 4-0.

The Bears will be back in action on Tuesday, March 12th for a double header against Spalding University at 3:30 PM, ET and Pennsylvania College of Technology at 5:30 PM, ET.
