Campbellsville, Ky. - Shawnee State dropped the regular season series to Campbellsville on Thursday evening. The third ranked Tigers offensive attack proved too much for the Bears as they were outscored 84-63.
Shawnee State shot 38.1% from the field on 24 of 63. From deep the Bears managed 8-22 for 36.4%. SSU was outrebounded 43-35 by the Tigers.
Campbellsville would finish at 45.3% from the field shooting 29-64. The Tigers went 3 of 9 from deep for 33.3%. Campbellsville also racked up an impressive 22 assists.
Hannah Miller (SR/Coal Grove, Ohio) led the Bears offensively finishing with 13 points on 5-14 shooting. Shania Massie (SR/Greenfield, Ohio) lit up from deep in the second half, finishing with a total of 12 points while going 3-3 from deep. Bailey Cummins (JR/Brooksville, Kentucky) rounds out the scorers in double digits as she finished with 11 points and six assists.
Campbellsville had four players in double figures, led by Madison Faulkner with 18. Jordan Doram finished with 17 points on 6-12 shooting. Madison Kaiser went 6-11 from the field and managed 16 points. Savannah Gregory put up 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
The mission of stopping Jordan Durham and Madison Faulkner was in full force in the early going; with the two standouts leading Campbellsville to a 7-3 run right out of the gate. Bailey Cummins would later tie it at seven at the four minute mark, only for Campbellsville to answer with a three pointer on the next possession. Hannah Miller would give the Bears a 16-14 lead late in the corner, yet Campbellsville would answer and lead 17-16 going into the second.
Scoring was scare in the opening minutes of the quarter, as the game clock winded past six minutes to go it was 23-21 Campbellsville. The Tigers would pick up the pace and quickly score six primarily off turnovers and lead 29-23 with under five minutes to go. It was a game of runs through the rest of the second with SSU going on a 5-0 run before Campbellsville answered with a 6-0 run of their own. Campbellsville would lead 39-34 at halftime.
Campbellsville carried momentum in the second half, extending their lead to 11 with eight minutes to go in the third, with the score at 47-36. The third quater belonged to the Tigers as they would go on to outscore the Bears 22-11 in the third quarter. Going into the final 10 minutes, it was Campbellsville on top 61-45.
Shawnee opened up the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run, yet still trailed 71-57 with under six minutes to go. Campbellsville's offense remained fundamental and calculated despite pestering defense from the Bears. At the 4:20 mark, the Tigers held on to a 75-59 lead as the game looked well in hand. Campbellsville would go on to win by a final score of 83-63.
The Bears will play their final regular season game this Saturday, Febuary 23rd in Portsmouth, Ohio. Shawnee State will take on Georgetown in the cave with tip set for 2PM.
