Beginning this weekend, the women's basketball program at Shawnee State faces Faulkner at 6 p.m. with a contest against Pikeville and the Virgin Islands following the contest between the No. 7-ranked Bears and the Eagles at 8 p.m. on Friday. Saturday's matchups will feature Faulkner and Pikeville at 12 p.m., the Shawnee State women and the Virgin Islands at 2 p.m., and the Shawnee State men facing the No. 1-ranked National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association Division II team in America, Great Lakes Christian, at 4 p.m.
With Great Lakes Christian's No. 1-ranking in the NCCAA Division II Poll, four of the six teams participating in this year's Penn Station Classic are nationally ranked, while the SSU men are 10-3 and have matched the 2002-03 unit for the second-best start in the history of the men's basketball program through 13 games. The Virgin Islands women round out the field.
Parking will be limited on Saturday morning and afternoon, including the front and back lots of the SSU campus, due to Fall 2019 Commencement ceremonies beginning at 12 p.m.
Officers will be working the B2 parking area, along with Third and Gay Streets, to deal with traffic at the end of fall commencement, which is expected to conclude at approximately 1 p.m.
For basketball teams participating in the classic, or large groups of people who desire to grab a meal following the end of the Fall 2019 Commencement ceremony, don't forget to call Josh Irwin at (740) 727-5224 to make arrangements for a team or a large group in order to get lunch box deals.
A six-inch sub, along with chips, a cookie, a napkin, and a mint can be purchased for $6.25, while an eight-inch sub, along with the aforementioned side items is $8.25 and a 10-inch sub with the same side items costs $10.
