Beckley, West Virginia – Shawnee State men's soccer fell on the road on Saturday, losing to (RV) West Virginia Tech 5-1.
SSU would shock the home side early by opening the scoring in the sixth minute. Kevin deLang (FR/Genemuiden, Netherlands)e would latch on to a ball from Caspar Nolte (SR/Germantown, Ohio) and finish to put SSU up 1-0. However, West Virginia Tech would equalize late in the half, with Eduardo Gutierrez scoring to tie the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.
West Virginia Tech would then strike for four goals in the second half. Three of those goals would come in a seven-minute span, begun by Manuel Garcia in the 57th minute. Pablo Muniz Rocandio would finish for WVU Tech's third in the 61st minute, and Freddy Robayo would then finish in the 63rd minute to put the Golden Bears up 4-1. Jaime Rodriguez would seal the win with a goal in the 81st minute, giving West Virginia Tech the 5-1 final score line.
The loss drops Shawnee State to 2-3-0 on the season. West Virginia Tech remains unbeaten, moving to 5-0-1. The Golden Bears lead the all-time series 5-1-1 after Saturday's win.
Shawnee State men's soccer returns to action on Sunday, September 9 when they welcome Ohio Christian to Shawnee Turf. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
