Men's Soccer fall to Pikeville 2-0

Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's soccer saw their program record five-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday, falling to Pikeville 2-0 on Homecoming.

Pikeville would take an early lead in the 16th minute. A free kick by Oscar Pacheco would be headed out of the box toward Eric Bernabeu. Bernabeu would then pass back to Pocheco, who would hit a screamer from 30 yards out that slipped past Kade Tomlinson (FR/Waxahachie, Texas)'s fingertips to give UPIKE a 1-0 lead.

The Bears would double their advantage before halftime. Bernabeu would play a corner into the box, and Francisco Billy Quiteno would be there to finish past Tomlinson to give Pikeville a 2-0 lead. Shawnee State's best effort would come in the second half, when Shane Zimmerman (SO/South Webster, Ohio) put Cian Broens (FR/Maastricht, Netherlands)' service into the box wide of the goal; Pikeville would secure the match from there to win 2-0.

The loss drops Shawnee State to 7-4-0 on the season, and to 0-1-0 in the Mid-South Conference. Pikeville improved to 8-3-0 and to 1-0-0. Shawnee State still leads the all-time series over Pikeville 8-2-2, but UPIKE has now won the last two games in the series.

Shawnee State men's soccer return to action on Tuesday, October 2 when they travel to Campbellsville for the team's first conference road game of the season. Kickoff is set for 8:00pm.
